Brown University men’s and women’s squash teams take home national titles

At the 2025 College Squash Association Club Team Championships, the men claimed their third straight win, while the women’s team celebrated its second victory in three years.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. [Brown University] — Brown University’s club squash teams brought home two new trophies over a winning weekend, as both the men’s and women’s programs clinched national titles at the 2025 College Squash Association National Collegiate Club Team Championships

At the Arlen Specter US Squash Center in Philadelphia, both teams played their way to the top, earning the championship titles in respective victories on Sunday, Feb. 16, against Columbia and the University of California Los Angeles. This marks the men’s third consecutive national title, while the women secured their second title in three years.

The Brown University men's club squash team earned its third national title in as many years with a 7-2 victory over Ivy League rival Columbia.

It was a satisfying win, as both teams had set goals in the fall to bring their A-game to the regular season in hopes of topping nationals, said Arthur Gaskin, who serves as head coach for both men’s and women’s club squash at Brown.

“The players were well-prepared to put in performances reflective of their training, and the results are a just reward for the consistency on the practice courts throughout the year,” Gaskin said.

In the women’s opening match against New York University, sophomore Hayden Rains overcame an 8-1 deficit in the third game to secure a crucial win. With support from sophomores Saisha Gupta and Alexis Dahlberg and senior Anna Hurd, the team won the match 5-4 and advanced to a semifinal showdown against Washington University in St. Louis. First-year student Bella Bin broke a 4-4 tie, putting Brown in the championship match against UCLA.

In the final, Hurd and Rains added further points in the second round, with junior Zoya Unni completing the victory with a comeback win in five games. The final score was 8-1, with Brown capturing the crown.

The men’s team began their campaign with a commanding 9-0 triumph over New York University. They advanced to the semifinals against Stanford and won 7-2, setting up a final against Ivy League rival Columbia. Strong performances by sophomores Tim Cassidy and Harrison Yang helped Brown clinch the title with a 7-2 victory.

“I can't thank the players enough for their energy and commitment,” Gaskin said. “It was a memorable weekend on and off the court, and the vibe, camaraderie and support amongst the teams was incredible. "
